My friend, she rests in my heart, by and by
The day was dull as was my pain
When I heard about my friend
Who fought an illness, in vain
Memories of times together, comfort they lend
She skipped and she smiled
Her plait long, thick and swinging
When she laughed her eyes twinkled
Her jokes, they mostly had me giggling
In our class, we worked hard and played hard
This one girl, she came everyday with stories
Of what happened in the evening, how she held her guard
And she would then bask in them, her glories
In the lab she has many a time rescued me
She sliced and made a slide like a magician
Through the microscope she what it is to be
While I struggled to find my vocation
Then we, the class of 86
Left the corridors of Miranda House
To study further, to work, to find a m
We went our ways, the fire in our belly to douse
The years went by, we married
We had children and our life was passing by
We found each other on facebook, whatsapp, never parried
We were together, we were giving it another try
Suddenly, my friend, she got the call
From the Divine and she bade the world goodbye
Leaving us with questions, for answers our minds still crawl
Then I saw her, my friend, she has come to rest in my heart, by and by
