From a mother to a daughter

As a mother to a daughter, I want all daughters to know that mothers live their dreams through you.  It does not mean that we want you to chase the dreams that we could not but that when you chase your dreams, we dream on with you.  These dreams were born with you.

They start as tine dreams of seeing you grow every day when you were just babies and they grow more beautiful as time goes by.  We dream about your turning over, your crawling, the little steps that you take, the first words you speak and then we dream about your going to that little school where you first made friends and first learnt to take instructions.  We also dream about the school you will go to and wonder what your dreams will be, what you would like to be and then tell ourselves, ….whatever will be will be.

We do dream of your success, academically and later professionally but more importantly we dream about your happiness, your following your passion and your finding a profession that allows you to follow that passion.  We do hope that you become an individual in your own right and that you do not do things just because the others are doing it.  We fantasise about you growing into a beautiful young adult, not beauty of face mind you but the beauty of thought, of hopes and desires and of the person that you will be.  We hope that you will work hard and have no regrets as your grow up and we hope this only because we feel very sad and uncomfortable when you feel sad and mad.

It is our privilege to be your mother, we are because you are, we dream because you dream.
We hope to see you pick up your dreams and float into the sky and remember the sky is limitless.  Puppy love will definitely engulf you, enjoy it.  Have your little crushes.  Mothers do not want to have their daughters grow up without rich and happy experiences in life.  All the time that we dream these little dreams of joy for you we also dream of your safety, of your mind and body.  When we worry about your time with friends and your outings it is certainly not because we do not want you to enjoy and have fun but it is because we fret thinking about your safety.  The only comfort we have is that we trust ourselves to have raised you to think for yourselves and our trust in you to keep yourself safe.

When you reach the cusp of adulthood, we know that you are ready to face the world and we hope that we have been able to give you the right values, a rounded education and that you will love and cherish other human beings.  We dream that you all will be the creators of a better world where love will prevail over hatred and that you will have the strength and the ability to keep people together.  We also hope and dream that you will speak out when you see wrong and that you will stand up for what is right.

As you find your partner, we hope you will do so after knowing the person well.  We dream that you will find love with a partner you consider you their equal, will love and cherish you for what you are and not for what you own.  We fantasies a life of happiness for you and we hope that your partner will hold you, love and dream with you when we are no more.  That you will be able to get ahead in your future confirmed with the fact that you have someone to give and receive friendship and love.

Go, daughter, claim the world, it is there for you to behold.  When your dreams are met, please dream on because if you stop dreaming you will miss the silver lining on the clouds, you will miss the rainbows as you hide from the rain.  We want you to see all and live life queen size, our dream is to set you free.
