My Ma, the Mighty Ganges

Like the river Ganga, she flows with persistence
From Gaumukh she is flowing down on a mission
Somewhere during that flow she gave birth to me
From then on her waters provided for my sustenance

She rippled through the mountains, taking me along
She gushed through the plains, making me strong
A winner is what she wanted me to be
A champion is what she made of me

The alphabets and numbers had to be perfect
She had dreams for me, that I was flawless
The lessons had to be learnt to precision
Else she was anxious of what the future would be

The subjects I chose were not to my liking
Still what I learnt I started relishing
She flowed, pushing me forward
She wanted me to be in the forefront

Then I grew up and decided to study law
She still flowed with me though she did not know what I saw
The grades needed to be perfect
Her dream was to see me as a victor

I got a job and she burbled and cooed
She had done her duty to me
She wished me success
She made me independent

We argue and we disagree
But the waters run deep so we still flow together
She is there for me without my telling her
She flows in front to that I am free from tussle

Those precious to her are what is precious to me
She will protect them with the holy spirit of the waters
For her grand daughter she stands like a pillar
For the rest of us she is the guide and the balm

Now that I am a mother
I realize the resolve of her flow
She lived her dreams through me
The dreams that were out of reach for her

She still ripples through the mountains, taking me along
She gushes through the plains, making me strong
A winner and a champion she has made of me
Sometime in future we both will flow into the ocean
